New Home Entry Reveal
It’s time to share the full tour of our entry space! Over on YouTube I posted a walkthrough of the main entry, our staircase & all the details of how I designed it. This is the first impression moment of our home, so I put a whole lot of thought and detail into it. It’s been so much fun styling the entry shelves, built-in planter & stair landing. I’m spilling all my insider details over on YouTube, but also wanted to list out a few simple tips that may be helpful as you’re tackling your own entry decorating….
Mollie’s Entry Styling Guide:
1) Choose your focus! What’s the first thing you want people to see when you enter the home? I decided the stone accent wall with large arched doors was my focus. That means everything I selected for the space is meant to accentuate that detail— so I went for a lighter color table that carries less visual weight, minimal decor pieces on the table.& faux stems that point to, or frame out my focus wall!
2) Establish your style! The entry sets the tone for your entire home. It’s where you give a preview of what’s to come, establish the style/feel of your home and greet your guests! Narrowing down your style is important so you don’t feel as overwhelmed when making design selections. I typically recommend writing down 3 words that describe the kind of interiors you like or the kind of decor/furniture you’re drawn to. For me it’s European, Organic, Modern— so that’s how I established my style of design back in 2017 when we built our last home! When furniture shopping or selecting decor if you find yourself debating if a piece really works, ask yourself if it encapsulates at least one of the words in your 3 word style. If not, then pass it up! It’ll help keep you on track with a cohesive feel throughout your home.
3) Make it personal! I always think it’s nice to bring that customized feel to the entry— maybe it’s cherished family photos or pieces you’ve collected when traveling. I was able to use our entry shelves to feature some of our favorite collected finds and artwork. Many of these were picked up during trips we’ve taken so it brings a lot of memories to the forefront— the personalized details are almost like a history or resume of where you’ve been to welcome guests into your home. It gives visitors a taste of who you are, while providing your family with a fun reminder of past travels or memories!
