Ikea Stool DIY: Little Lamb

DIY

Ikea Mammut Lamb Stool DIY from Design Loves DetailA few months back, Mollie and I were asked to participate in the Ikea "Bring a Friend" event they hosted. Local bloggers were asked to take an Ikea product of choice and demonstrate live, how they updated the product, what creative way you transformed the product or how you used the product uniquely. Mollie and I decided right away that we wanted to transform the Mammut Kids Stool into a fun toadstool inspired by Mollie's crazy awesome playroom.Once we got started planning the how-to, we were quickly taken to so many other options that this stool leant itself to. So in true Design Loves Detail fashion, we did not only one stool, but came up with 3 separate designs. One of them being this unbelievably adorable lamb. See below for the full breakdown on how-to make your own!DLDsupplies

  • Ikea Mammut Stool
  • Ikea grey chair pad
  • Pillow stuffing
  • Black spray paint
  • 4 extra strength magnets
  • 1 foam head
  • 1 yarn tail (tutorial here)
  • 2 black buttons for eyes
  • 2" Velcro strips

Gentle not to tear the fabric or rip it open too much.Stuff the pad with the pillow stuffing. You don't want to much, but enough for more dimension and cushion. While the pad  is still open, hot glue one of the magnets to the inside of the pad. This will serve as a way to attach and detach the head and tail. Repeat this process on the opposite side. One for the head, one for the tail.Sew or glue the hole back together.Ikea Hack Lamb Mammut Stool DIY by Design Loves Detail 03Using whatever material youve chosen for a head, glue a magnet to the back of it. Make sure that you glue the correct side of the magnet. If not, the magnets won't attract and you'll have to rip it off and re-glue.Ikea Hack Lamb Mammut Stool DIY by Design Loves Detail 04Now its time to give your little lamb some peepers. We found some great black  buttons for eyes at Hobby Lobby. Simply use your glue gun to adhere them to the head. We picked up our "head" at Hobby Lobby as well. Its original use was a large Easter egg but we found it made the perfect head for our lamb stool. You could also use a Styrofoam egg and cover it in a fun fabric.Ikea Hack Lamb Mammut Stool DIY by Design Loves Detail 05To make ears, we simply took some white felt and adorned it the same fabric as the seat. We were provided with two seating pads so we used the extra one for the inside of the ears. We cut a small, rounded triangle and glue it on. Pretty perfect, right?Ikea Hack Lamb Mammut Stool DIY by Design Loves Detail 08The cutest part of the whole thing came when we added the fluffy tail. Using a yarn pom-pom, we hot glued the remaining magnet onto the back. This is pretty genius because the tail and head can now be removed, leaving a cushioned stool for seating.Ikea Hack Lamb Mammut Stool DIY by Design Loves Detail 07We used Velcro squares to keep the pad from falling off the slick surface of the stool.Ikea Hack Lamb Mammut Stool DIY by Design Loves Detail 06Spray the bottom of the stool "legs" with a black, gloss paint and your product is complete!Ikea Hack Lamb Mammut Stool DIY by Design Loves Detail 09We absolutely love how versatile these stool animals can be. While we made a lamb with our Ikea products, we are also smitten with the idea of transforming the lamb and making a wolf. Oh the irony!Ikea Hack Lamb Mammut Stool DIY by Design Loves Detail 10AmandaSignature
