#EuropeanOrganicModern: Butler's Pantry + Laundry Room!
As a designer, I believe in beautiful spaces. However, the older I get the more I appreciate function and to me a space needs to be functional to be truly great. I really enjoy seeing the "work" spaces of peoples homes-- those necessary rooms that maybe don't get as much love because they're a bit more function over form. That's why I thought I'd share our Butler's Pantry & Laundry room today. A couple areas where I aimed to bring together equal parts form & function. Both spaces are right off our kitchen so I decided to design a couple sets of these custom doors with transoms to provide some stylish separation between the "working" area & kitchen. The transoms are made from antique leaded glass from an old cabinet I purchased. When I bought the old cabinet, the glass pieces were inset in the cabinet doors, but I thought, "hey those would make pretty sweet transoms!"... And they sure did :)The custom doors are accented with some pretty fabulous hardware from the one & only Emtek. These are the Tumbled White Bronze (like I used throughout my home) and to make these ones stand out just a bit more, I went with the crystal knob. I'm in love with this hardware eye candy! And the Stretto style backplate worked perfectly for this application since these doors are more narrow. For the cabinetry in this space, Deco Design really delivered! I wanted open shelving for the functional aspect, but also wanted to keep a cabinetry feel. Deron of Deco Design, worked with me to create this concept that provides storage from floor to ceiling! I love the drawers too since they're great for keeping kids snacks at their level and easily accessible. The bench below the window is another fun element Deron proposed for this space. It's unique & unexpected, plus provides more storage and gets a lot of use! I love having my kids come sit down and chat with me while I'm doing meal prep in this room or sitting there myself when talking with my husband who makes our daily green smoothie here. One of my favorite things about Deco Design is that Deron is a creative genius who works through each detail with you to get it just right! I recently interviewed him to get some very helpful insight for our upcoming blog post about custom cabinetry and his process... can't wait to share! And how about that Delta Faucet in the ever glorious, Champagne Bronze?! This one is from the Trinsic line and I love it for the sleek styling as well as the good pricepoint! A great collection with modern simplicity at it's finest. Plus it has a pull down sprayer that is so seamless you forget it's there! I shared a video of this faucet in my Instagram stories-- you can find it on my Instagram page (@designlovesdetail) in the Highlights section under "Details".In this space we also wanted to tuck away things like the microwave, blender, kitchen mixer, toaster, etc. Having these appliances located in the Butler's pantry keeps the mess out of the kitchen which is nice! We added this fun and reasonably priced drink cooler to make grabbing a cold beverage a breeze. My husband & I as well as our kids have loved this!!Lastly, in the Butler's Pantry, the light fixture adds a little old world charm. It's from MyLightingSource.com! Keep scrolling for the Laundry room details too :) Let's be honest here... the laundry room in my house is just basic and I'm totally good with that! I admitted in my instagram stories home layout tour that my husband does the laundry and always has! Both of us just wanted to keep this space efficient & simple. There's a washer/dryer, a couple upper cabinets, one lower cabinet, some counter space for folding and we will soon get the hanging rod added for clothing. Just the essentials here, but I love it! I think the cabinetry is so pretty & classic. Executed to perfection by Deco Design. It's painted in Farrow & Ball's Wimbourne White. This fresh white paired with the wood countertop is pretty minimal fabulous if you ask me! And get excited cause the Kitchen tour is coming Friday! Happy midweek everyone... we made it to Wednesday!!
