DLD Cribs: A Neutral Nursery
It's been quite awhile since I decorated the nursery for my first baby to arrive. I wanted it to be simple, soft & neutral, so I chose a color palette of greys, black, white, buttery yellows & shades of cream. At the time my plan was to keep it gender neutral & use it for all my babies, but let's get real... I love changing things up WAY TOO MUCH. Anyway, I thought that others of you might be the very same way, so I will soon be doing the post of my updated nursery (with a girly twist) to give some ideas on how to make the gender swap & give a nursery a brand new fresh look (without breaking the bank). I thought that it would be best to start with this original nursery design to show you what it looked like before I "girlified" it. Although I'll always adore this soft, neutral nursery I created for my first little babe, I was surprised to find how much my tastes have changed in 3 years as I began re-designing for the little miss. This original nursery is very traditional when it comes down to it & I definitely lean towards more modern pieces these days. For this nursery I used a lot of vintage and/or wood toys (just like I did in my playroom-- one of my random obsessions). The collage above the crib includes some large fabric & batting covered woodland creatures I made. They're actually magnetic on the back so that they can be a bit more interactive & interchangeable over time. The black dresser & buttercream cabinet are both pieces I refinished. I got both pieces for about $90 total and after a some paint, new knobs and a little beadboard they were certainly nursery-worthy. I will give more refinishing details soon in an "all about furniture" post! In the meantime, enjoy this simple neutral nursery...
