Vendor Spotlight: Gina DeSantis Ceramics
At this point, I think it's very apparent that we here at DLD are obsessed with Faux Bois. So naturally when we saw these little works of art by Gina DeSantis Ceramics, we were completely smitten! We were then introduced to Gina's other collections and fell madly in love with them as well! Today we are elated to share some of Gina's collections with you, our readers.
A little bit about Gina:Gina DeSantis has been teaching and working in clay for over a decade. She earned her MFA from Kent State University in 2006. Soon after she established her studio in the Lake Erie Building (aka the Screw Factory) and began selling her wares locally and nationally. In 2013 she acquired a second studio space and teaches wheel throwing classes to teens and adults. Her work has been featured at the Chicago One of-a-Kind Show in the Etsy Pavilion, One Kings Lane and the Buyers Market of American Craft in Philadelphia. Gina’s dinnerware collections will soon be available through Uncommon Goods. In July she will be part of an artists under 35 show at the Craft Museum in Columbus, Ohio. Needless to say, Gina is a master at her craft! We are completely head-over-heels in love with her works of art! Some words from Gina herself:I strive to make well-crafted functional wares for the home and table. I am happiest in the studio and in the kitchen. I grew up surrounded by the ritual of cooking. I always consider how a particular glaze color or pattern affects the presentation of food. With these two loves in mind, I create work that enhances the joys of cooking and dining. My decorative techniques include a variety of methods not limited to wax-resist, carving and under glaze paintings. I have created four collections that reflect my love of nature, color and pattern: Cherry Blossom, Wintertide, Summertide and Faux Bois.
The Cherry Blossom Collection is directly influenced by nature and features a brown blossom pattern accented with aqua and black.
The Wintertide and Summertide Collections are intertwined with the use of wax resist patterning.
Wintertide focuses on graphic stripes in purple, blue, green and gray tones. Summertide focuses on circular designs in aqua and lime.
My Faux Bois collection is crafted from porcelain while the others are made with white stoneware clay. Each piece is hand carved with a tree trunk inspired design. No two are ever the same.
