DLD Cribs: Key Nursery Pieces on a Budget

If there are two things we love more than design and weddings, it has to be babies and their nurseries. We received photos of this beautiful nursery from one of our readers, Christina Matthews. We loved that Christina incorporated elements that would grow with her baby girl. She kept the nursery neutral but added pops of color which could easily be swapped out for a quick update, if so compelled. We also love that Christina found all of her items on a tight budget and was still able to make the space warm and cohesive. Great job, Christina!

Words from the beautiful momma: When I started thinking about decorating, I was drawn to pictures of neutral colored nurseries before we found out we were having a little girl. Maybe it’s the feminist in me, or just my rebelliousness, but I've never been a fan of the color pink for girls, so I decided to use gold/yellow, red, and beige accents for our little one’s room. The original theme was going to be “birds,” but once I found the botanical and butterfly prints at IKEA, I decided to do a “garden” or “spring” theme.  I was on a tight budget and I knew I needed to make it work for less than a thousand dollars (including everything from paint to furniture)

I also wanted the room to be something she could grow into. We have an historic home (built in 1926) and there is an overall lack of storage. Given the very small closet and the need for the room to be functional, I opted to add a wardrobe instead of a changing table. I also went with a larger size dresser, one that will hopefully last her until she goes to college!

My favorite part of the room is the chair. I look forward to the late nights feeding and rocking her. When I feel stressed and overwhelmed with being a new mom, I hope the calm and bright surroundings can provide a little comfort and relaxation.

A big thanks to Christina for sharing her beautiful nursery. We wish you all the best and hope to see images of your beautiful baby girl when she arrives! Find more from Christina at @christina1582.Crib: Target (Graco)Bedding: Serena and LilyUpholstered chair and ottoman:  Overstock.com
