Fresh Greens Door Decor: DIY with DLD
Who's ready for some fresh inspiration today? I know that I am! One of the perks of being a wedding florist is that I get to play with leftovers that didn't quite make the cut for wedding day florals. This doesn't happen often, but when it does, I take full advantage (that is if I'm not completely exhausted) of putting the leftovers to work. This is a double bonus for your our readers because you also get ideas on how to freshen up your home with these lovelies. Today I am sharing an unbelievably fast and fresh DIY that you can use indoors or out for a fresh summer look. Enjoy!
SUPPLIES..................
- Wet Foam Wreath
- 2 bunches Fresh Greens (lemon leaf)
- Gardening Shears
- Ribbon
- Fresh Herbs or Succulents (optional)
TO BEGIN...................Soak the oasis foam into fresh, cold water for approximately 15 minutes. Make sure that when purchasing the foam, it is capable of holding water. This will ensure that your greens and herbs will have a water source and will likely last twice as long if you decided to leave outside in the heat.
To make the most use out of your bunch of greens, you can clip the stems into two parts. This will double the amount of usable foliage and avoid too much waist, as the stems that will be placed into the oasis need to be short in length so as to not poke out the other side. Repeat this process until all stems are processed. Now begins insertion. Like I mentioned above, you want the stems to be cut short, about an inch in length. Insert the stem directly into the foam. Repeat this process until you have covered the foam in a full circle. The first layer should be inserted at the base of the foam to ensure proper coverage. Now begin on the next layer. This layer should be placed on the top-edge of the foam ring like shown below. You want to make the wreath dimensional so you will want to make sure that the leaves are facing up and inward.Continue this process until you have covered all of the foam with foliage. Fill in any spots that were not covered by your first two layers occasionally holding the wreath up to check bare spots. You can also add in things like fresh rosemary, bay leaf, lavender, ferns, succulents or even hardy florals. Once complete, tie a colored ribbon around the base of the foam and you are ready to hang! I chose to place mine on a old door I have in my yard as decor.
Give your wreath a fresh watering every other day and it will last you for over a week! Fresh Greens: Local Wholesaler (Can be purchased at local grocery store)
