#EuropeanOrganicModern: Basement Kitchen/Dining Reveal

When we started finishing our basement, I knew the kitchen would be tight. I didn't want that to mean it had to be boring. So I came up with the idea to add an arched oversized range hood over the entire kitchen wall! It's an easy way to add an architectural detail where there otherwise would have been none!

As you can see, I had one wall to pack in a range, fridge, dishwasher & sink! That's where Cafe Appliances came into play! I knew their gorgeous appliances would make this room shine. With the limited space, every detail had to be perfectly thought out. Cafe has the coolest space saving drawer fridge that goes under the counter and was a complete game-changer for this kitchen! It's the perfect size for all our snacks and drinks. You can see the inside of it on our YouTube video here:

I seriously can't get enough of the Cafe line appliances! They come in multiple colors & you can even select the hardware color too!! I went with the matte black & bronze hardware. It has a gold undertone that ties in perfectly with my antique brass fixtures. And speaking of fixtures... how about the incredible plaster look pendants from Hudson Valley Lighting?!

I instantly fell in love with them!! And they come in multiple sizes so you can find the perfect fit for your space! The aged brass with white makes a stunning and crisp contrast with the black appliances. I used Hudson Valley Lighting fixtures throughout our basement for a classic, timeless style. I love the way their collections mix so well together too! Can't wait to show you more!

For the gorgeous tile backsplash from Bedrosians I also went with a fresh, organic white! The Cloe tile has the handmade look I adore with a subtle variety in tone which makes the perfect backdrop for this European Countryside inspired kitchen! I love how cozy it makes things feel, while still maintaining my signature minimalist style.

Bedrosians makes this incredible tile in a variety of colorways and it also comes in a subway shape too! Mine is the 5x5 Cloe in white. I used Mapei "frost" grout with it and did the smallest sized spacing possible for minimal grout and an old world, artisan feel!

And you know to build my dream cabinetry I always call on the talented Deron of Deco Design! He did such an awesome job making my vision for this space come to life! I wanted to go for a grey/green tone for this space-- so I selected Benjamin Moore's "Duxbury Grey". I'd never seen it used before, but it looked amazing with my selections for this design so I took the plunge! Since on my main level I went for the grey/blues tones, I wanted to switch it up just a bit for the basement! Overall, I think it still feels cohesive with my main level, but has a little unique flair of its own which I love! And the beautiful Emtek Haydon knobs in satin brass are the perfect accent against this grey green tone!! Emtek hardware is always the jewelry of my kitchen cabinetry!

And here's a fun little secret... the left side drawer bank in the kitchen actually is a drawer on top, but the lower 2 drawers are really a panel where a double garbage can pull-out is hidden! I felt pretty proud of this plan since this kitchen is so tight, but I still managed to squeeze in all the essentials! So grateful to Deco Design for building it all so beautifully!!

And can you even handle the custom kitchen island? I love it soo much! I wanted to keep it open since the space is quite small and that allows things to stay visually quite open & airy. It provides the seating and storage that's necessary without feeling too bulky. I even found a similar prefab one that I linked for you below!

The Serena & Lily Balboa counter stools in Mist are the perfect complement to the natural wood tone of the island! I had been obsessed with them for so long and felt like this would be the perfect place to use them. I think they're perfect in here! I love the way the brass leg caps and footrest bar tie in so well with the other brass accents in this space!

I carried the natural wood from the island over onto the large open shelf built into the oversized hood. And I also used this same wood for the arched built-in shelves I designed for our basement family room that's right next to this room. It's a great way to have a cohesive feel since the kitchen & family room areas really are like one space with how open this basement area is. The Hallmark engineered European oak floors in Ventura Seashell also help tie all the basement spaces together. These are the same floors I used on my main level too! You can learn more about them here!

The last detail I wanted to mention is the dining space that's also connected to the main family room & kitchen. I designed an oversized built in banquette with vertical shiplap detail and added two concrete tables! I love this concept because with the placement of this space you can still view the TV in the family room area while you're sitting down to eat-- it's great for getting together for sports games, birthday parties or movie nights! And the concrete tables are virtually indestructible, which is a major bonus. You can shop the products I used below!
