DLD Holiday Home Tours: Rustic Woodland Glamour
Hey guys, we hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It's great to kick of the holiday season with hearts full of gratitude. Now that it's officially time for the Christmas music & decorating, we thought we'd bring you a festive week filled with ideas for holiday decorating & Christmas traditions. We've got a very special line-up this year of "Holiday Home Tours."First off, here's a little peek at my home for the holidays (we haven't gotten our Christmas tree yet, so this is more of our "winter decor"). I kept it simple with a rustic flair, using shades of Emerald green, neutral tones & white, plus metallics for some holiday sparkle. I wanted a bit of the handcrafted look, so I made some snowball garlands out of white pom-poms strung on gold embroidery thread and I also made a hand-stamped banner out of wide burlap ribbon as well as some burlap & pom pom trees (I'll have a DIY tutorial for the burlap tree up soon!). I want to thank the talented Lindsey Orton for these incredible images. She's amazing & if you're in the market for wedding or family photos, you should definitely check her out! Here's a little more info on Christmas at our house...Q: What is your favorite part of decorating for the holidays?I love the anticipation! It's the Christmas decor that brings back all the memories of Christmases past and a new hope & excitement for the upcoming holiday. This year my little boy was able to help us get all the stuff out of storage & he gets so excited about helping decorate. And of course I love having Christmas music on & holiday treats, like Pumpkin Egg Nog while we decorate! It's always ideal to have some snow falling outside too.Q: How would you describe your design style?I would say it's a little urban rustic + handmade home with classic & vintage elements mixed in. Maybe I just should have said eclectic woodland-- that probably sums it up more!Q: What do you think is key to making a cozy, holiday home?I think greenery is important. I also think that probably varies for each family-- different elements mean "cozy" to different people. I think it's important to always involve the family in decorating so they can feel part of the festivities. I also think that it's good to keep some of the staple Christmas decor items from year to year. I like to switch things up a bit each year, but I want my kids to always have those certain parts of the Christmas decor that they are attached to & that have that magical holiday "sparkle" for them.Q: What fun traditions do you do for the holidays? We do pretty much all the classics... new pajamas on Christmas Eve, hot cocoa & christmas light viewing, etc. One thing my husbands family always did when he was growing up was a Christmas tree decorating party. They had lots of treats & hor d'oeuvres with Christmas music as they'd all decorate the tree together-- the youngest child always got to put the star on top!
