DIY Project: Spooky Starch Ghosts

Good Morning and Happy Tuesday! Since Halloween is only a day away, we think its only fitting that we bring you another Halloween DIY project. These ghost are not only super easy to make but are just as adorable. Long gone are the days of the balloon with the yarn tied heads, with these spooky hanging frills!Supplies needed:

  • A set of white sheets
  • Bottle of liquid starch
  • 2 Tomato cages
  • Childs plastic ball (could use basketball, soccerball or balloon)
  • Bind wire
  • Brown and Black Spray Paint

Begin by cutting edges of the sheets to make them rugged and worn.

Take the spray paint and spray the sheets, adding just a little bit of color. Instead of paint you can also try dyeing the fabric with coffee or tea. For the sake of time, I used the paint.Once you have the desired paint effect. Place the sheets in a bucket (or tub) of liquid starch. I used the whole bottle for one set of queen sheets. Wring out the sheets as much as possible, making sure to get out any excess liquid.

With your tomato cages placed on top of each of the other and turned upside down, use bind wire to tie the 3 prongs together in the middle. With the bottom cage bend out two of the prongs. These will serve as the arms of the ghost. Place the ball onto the bound wire. This is a little tricky and you may need a little assistance to hold the ball in place for the next step.

Place the soaked sheets over top of the ball and arrange to the desired affect. Wait 4-5 hours for the fabric to dry completely. It may take more time depending on the location.Once the fabric has dried, remove the sheets from the ball and cage. It should be pretty stiff and may be stuck to the cage.
