A Facelift: Master Bedroom Style
Hope you all had a wonderful & relaxing Christmas Day! We're back to business today with another little peek into my home...
In 2009 when my husband & I built our house, we chose some pretty bold colors to use in our Master Bedroom-- Red & Aqua Blue. I felt ready for a change this past Spring and decided to switch things up a bit with a new color palette-- Teal, Aqua, Mustard, Grey & White with some neutral accents. Thanks to two lovely photographers, Cherie of Cherie Hogan Photography and Lindsey of Lindsey Shaun Photography, we also had some spicy new photos to add to the walls. As a side note, if you haven't had photos of you & your spouse done in a few years-- I highly recommend it. I'm not talking family photos where there are a few of you & your honey separately, but a full-on, all about the two of you, romantical little photo sesh! Seriously, it was a blast & felt like we were doing our engagements all over, but after 6 years of marriage there was so much more depth to our relationship-- something worth capturing!
Okay, so back to my little bedroom update... I used a lot of patterns of course, because I've always been a little pattern crazy. The inspiration for this bedroom re-do was actually the bird/floral print mustard pillows. I bought them like 2 years ago at Home Goods and didn't even have an exact place for them... just knew that they made my heart sing and needed a place in my home-- so I made one. In case you're swooning over them too, don't worry, I've included links below! [I found some virtually identical pillow covers on Etsy for you.] I also have this same fabric print, but in aqua on my living room side chairs. I'm slightly obsessed. Anyway, I wanted to play with mixing a lot of patterns/textures-- as I often do-- and loved the bold grey/white stripe of the duvet cover in combination with the mustard bird print. Even the teal sheets have a little circle pattern on them. Bliss!
One of the nice things about this bedroom re-do is that I was able to work with some pieces I already had. I didn't want to break the bank, so I kept our furniture, large aqua rug (which was a steal on KSL.com for $100) and even some of the aqua pillows & frames. Sometimes you get tired of decor & want to scrap it all, but it's a good idea to find a few key pieces that you can keep & by adding other colors + new items with them, they'll feel new & fresh again too. When I realized my walls were kind of blank, my sister-in-law was actually the one who suggested using the photos of my husband & I and enlarging them to use as the main art in the room. It felt kind of vain to me at first, but I think her suggestion was actually genius. It is our space-- the one place in the whole house that's just ours and it celebrates our love & togetherness. Tender, right? But totally true. haha. I also designed some canvas "LOVE" letters to use as art & a chevron quote canvas to coordinate & break up the images above the bed. Enjoy the before & after pics. Let me know what you think about the color changes... love to hear your thoughts!
A BIG THANKS AGAIN to the awesome Brienne of Azure B Photography, for capturing these lovely "after" images!
