Woodland Nature Playroom
I've always been a kid at heart. My parents were both very creative & filled my childhood with fun magical memories & experiences. My father designed and built many play things for my siblings and I-- like a large wooden stage, a reading nook, a playhouse, etc. We loved playing & creating with these things and perhaps that's why I've had a vision for my own children's playroom for as long as I can remember. When my son was born, I decided it was time to put this vision into action. I called on my contractor brother-in-law and my husband to help make all my dreams come to life. I designed large trees, branches, blades of grass and clouds which were then cut out & assembled by my brother-in-law and my trusty woodworking guru, Robert. I wanted a 3-D world to be created so I chose a fairly thick MDF for these projects. I like the depth & feeling of these elements being raised from the wall & not just painted on. I'm not sure where this idea even came from, it's somehow just always been in my mind, maybe since I was a kid!
My overall goal was to create a world that could be explored much like the outdoor world. I wanted it to be interactive, tactile & most importantly a place to dream. Imagination is so important to me. I don't ever want my children's imaginations to be limited. The environment my parents provided allowed my imagination to bloom & I'm so thankful for that (or, of course, I wouldn't be dreaming up crazy projects like this!). Anyway, I'll let you see the mostly completed project for yourself (there are 2 more things that still need to be made for this room to be complete-- I'll keep you posted). But for now, I'm pretty much in love. It's one of my favorite places in our whole house & it seems to be a hit with my little boy too-- a major plus. Enjoy...
Hope you've been enjoying Kids Week so far-- we've got lots more in store for you, including a giveaway. A big THANKS to Brienne of Azure B Photography for these fantastic images!
