Remodel Project: Family Room!!
FINALLY!!! Sharing this room that I love so much! This space was another one that we were able to completely transform from a dated 90's vibe to a fresh Mediterranean Modern style family room. I wanted to create a "wow" moment with the fireplace-- something that would take your eye up to the high ceilings & be a true statement maker. I used a natural patio stone which was installed with wider grout for more of an aged look. This method is often called "over-grouting". It's less tailored and more organic looking. It reminds me of longstanding European architecture and that timeless artisan-crafted feeling of old villages.
I balanced out the aged look with a fresh, modern mantel. Ours was custom crafted to fit the space, but you can find a nearly identical pre-made one linked here. It can be ordered online and you can select the pre-cast concrete color you want too-- color samples available here! Or they even have a paint grade option that can be painted any color you'd like. Ours is painted China White by Benjamin Moore (the same color I used for the walls, trim & ceiling). To add some warmth to the space I added the wood beam. It's a hollow beam that I had made by my trusty cabinet company Prestige Woodworks. I love the way it connects this room to the kitchen (which I'll be sharing pretty soon too-- just waiting for the amazing fridge to arrive!).
The wood beam also ties in well with the floors that I selected from Hallmark Flooring. I will be sharing more details on those in the kitchen video too! In the center of the beam you'll notice the most stunning chandelier from Generation Lighting! The Bayview collection is filled with gorgeous modern fixtures. I went for the larger size Bayview chandelier to make a statement-- large scale lighting is my favorite! I love the simple lines, and that its sculptural beauty looks different from different angles-- which makes for a cool experience when viewing it.
For the color in this space I wanted to use a lot of neutrals, but with pops of rich earth tones like the terracotta/clay color that you'll notice in the artwork & rug. The rug and artwork also bring in some beautiful olive green tones and deeper greens as well, with little pops of pale blue-- like the sky of the painting and a bit in the rug detail too.
I used neutral tones for the pillows, but went for lots of layered textures to keep things interesting + cozy. The gorgeous sofa is one that I am obsessed with! I collaborated with Downeast Home on this room and am so thrilled with how their Bailey sofa looks in this space. AND the price cannot be beat! Such a high end style with great quality too. It's one of the very best I've found and it's hard for them to keep in stock with how good the value is for the price! Their furniture is the perfect mix of style + quality + affordability in my opinion. You can see more of the sofa & other details in my YouTube video linked below!
