Mollie's Home Tour: Kitchen + Dining
The saying that the kitchen is the heart of the home may be cliche, but it's also downright true! And this space is one of my favorite places to be. For those of you who follow us on Instagram (@designlovesdetail) and have asked, I'm happy to tell you I've got a link list at the bottom of this post with the products I used in this space-- just leave a comment on this post if you have any other questions! I wanted to create a kitchen and dining area that had a coastal + farmhouse feel, so that's just what I did!! I went with a wide plank white oak laminate that has a weathered feel. The light & bright color palette on the cabinets & walls was aimed at achieving the airy beach vibe (paint colors listed at bottom of post). I designed the cabinetry & island and drew a bunch of pictures, which were then turned into plans & fabricated. The antique brass fixtures and hardware add a bit of understated glamour, while the rustic farm shelf & industrial metal chairs give that farmhouse feel. A white fireclay farmhouse sink was also an essential piece-- make sure to shop around & look online if you're in the market for a new sink. We found our farmhouse sink as a closeout model for around $400. I went with a grey & white granite for the island, rather than marble because of the better durability-- marble can stain a lot easier than granite and I have 3 little kids! For the other countertops we went with a dark quartz for contrast. And then I added pops of navy blue, because... well, I'm a navy blue addict. Haha. One of my favorite elements in this space is the table that I designed & my husband built. One day he told me he wanted to build a table and he was ready to get going on it asap, so he asked me how I wanted it to look. I scribbled a couple drawings on a scrap paper right then and that was that. He figured out how to make it and I love it so much! People often ask where we purchased it and it makes my man so proud. haha. I think I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking... once again beautifully captured by the lovely & talented Jessie of Jessie Alexis Photography!Pendants Over Island:
