Kids Birthday Party- Aviator Theme
The first birthday of your first child is EPIC. Yes, I can say that now since I've experienced it. In the beginning I thought I'd just do something simple, but let's face it-- that's not how I roll. After lots of pondering I decided that a retro/vintage aviator-themed party would be perfect for my little man and although there were a few hiccups-- like my son not wanting anything to do with his cake-- I'd say it was!
--DETAILS--
Invitation: Since stationery is what I do, this was of course one of the most fun aspects of this party for me. I designed a retro-looking plane ticket complete with vintage stamps to use for mailing-- yes, I'm kind of obsessed. Postage was so much cooler back in the day! If you want to use vintage postage for a project, you can find a great selection on Ebay, but be careful you might get addicted like me! I also made coordinating thank you cards with photos of my little aviator to send out after the big event. The cute photos of my son were done by Cherie Hogan Photography-- adorable, right?Attire: It's true, I even made him wear some aviator gear. Looking back at this now I think I may have been borderline insane, but dang he looked cute!Treats: Propeller pops (made from marshmallows, colored candy melts, frosting and M&M's) + airplane and cloud shaped sugar cookies (made by my little sis)... so good they're making me hungry now!Food: Cloud shaped sandwiches, fruit skewers, pasta salad. We also served "flight juice" & peanuts since no aeronautical journey would be complete without them!!Decor: I made a timeline garland from ribbon, photos, vintage playing cards & paper clips.Activity: Guests could "paint-a-plane" to keep as a souvenir or leave for the birthday boy to keep.Favors: Retro airplane travel-size notepads & pens.
