Indoor Activity DIY: Valentines Style

DIY

Today I share with you a quick activity that you can whip up on snowy days like these. Utah's weather is very unpredictable and this activity is great for those little who may be antsy to get outside and play. So lets bring the outdoors in with some fish'n fun!Kid's Indoor Fishing Activity

Supplies:

  • Various colored foam sheets
  • Heart shaped cookie cutter
  • Various sizes of google eyes
  • Scissors
  • Small magnets
  • Hot Glue gun
  • Twine
  • Long stick
  • Blue food coloring

(I found all of my supplies at Dollar Tree)

Start by tracing various sized hearts onto your foam sheets. You'll want a about 3-4 sizes so you can make both large and small fish, and use the smaller hearts for fins, lips and tails. Cut out the hearts. It's now time to assemble your fish. This part will be left up to you to decide how you adore your hearts. I made each  fish multicolored with numerous colors, sizes and shapes.

After all the fish are designed, take the mini magnets and with hot glue, adorn them to the back of the fish.

I found some darling "tub-time" crayons at Target in the babies isle and used them to decorate the tub walls. My neice loved this!

Its now time to filler-up! Fill the tub a little over halfway and add about 4-5 drops of blue food coloring. Kids love anything out of the ordinary and this will be a little extra surprise.

Add your fish, face side up, in the water.

**NOTE: You'll want to make sure that there is no soap scum on your tub or else the dye will adhere to the scum and leave a ring. Clean your tub first.Let the fishing begin!

I used a long wooden dowel as a make-do fishing pole. You can also use a long branch or anything you have lying around the house. Attached one end of the rod with some twine and at the end of the twine attached a strong magnet. Make sure that its a strong magnet so that the fish can be pulled from the water with ease. Our catches for the day were placed in a wire basket I also picked up and the Dollar Tree. Gosh, I love that store!

Hope your enjoyed today's Valentines Day activity. Check back tomorrow for more Valentines inspiration.
