Thanksgiving Harvest-- Tabletop Designs

Today we bring you a few easy tips on how to create a charming, warm & oh-so-simple tablescape for Thanksgiving this year. We used supplies that are easy to find & inexpensive to create a traditional Fall harvest-inspired setting.First of all, the table runner was made from a basic roll of brown kraft butcher paper, which can be purchased at your local craft store. We liked the earthy, natural foundation it provided for our tablescape. Next, we added some moss & leaves for a little color & texture (you can find moss like this at a craft store or even your local dollar store). We then incorporated some rustic buckets & a large tin. These elements added some height & allowed us to feature a few simple floral elements. The grasses you see were trimmed from a field off the side of the road (thanks to Amanda, who can spot the perfect floral elements anywhere!). Using natural elements like the grasses added an organic feel to our table set-up, which was right inline with what we were aiming for.We then added a few clear candle holders. These glass candle holders provided an extra layer to our design without being too visually heavy. They worked well for holding candles & tiny pumpkins-- get creative! We used lots of little pumpkins, squash and gold-accented fruits to fill in around the taller pieces and to spill out from one of the buckets (the Cornucopia effect). We added some autumn colored gems and a few little wooden acorns (you can use real acorns, and even spray paint them gold if you want a little more glam). Lit candles completed the look with a warm glow. Voila... a totally easy & enchanting Thanksgiving table!Don't you just adore these images? The lovely & amazing Mikki Platt, perfectly captured this table set-up for us (she is incredible-- make sure you check out her work!).A few pointers...

  • You'll notice the taller elements are more at the edges of the table-- this allows conversation to still flow well across the middle of the table.
  • When using kraft paper as a table covering or runner, consider writing names of guests right onto the paper-- this is especially fun for a kids table. Cover the whole table & provide crayons to let them draw things they're thankful for!
  • Some of the fruit is fully painted gold & other pieces are just lightly brushed gold, with some of their natural color showing through-- this allows more color & contrast for a perfect balance!

** Make sure you check back tomorrow for a fantastic post from Amanda about proper table setting etiquette! There will be more images from this lovely tablescape too. Hope you're getting excited for this years Thanksgiving feast!
