DLD Cribs: Sugar & Spice

It's official, the nursery has been given a dose of girly glamour and is neutral no longer! A weird fact about me is that I was SO nervous to have a baby girl. I feared the drama, the "princess phase," and even the idea of putting together outfits (since girls have so many more pieces to deal with, boys are easy... pants or shorts?!). It's strange since most mamas enjoy dressing up their little ladies and look forward to all the girly goodness, but not me-- totally terrified. Now that my little gem has arrived, I have forgotten all those fears & just can't get enough of her tiny sweetness. I'm sure there will be drama & all the other stuff, but for now she is the loveliest little thing I could have imagined. When it came to the nursery for this little lady, I wanted something different from the norm. Most everything is pink in this girl world and I wasn't having any of it! Sure, I used peach & coral, but they're not pink-- just close cousins (wink). I paired the shades of peach & coral with mint greens, pale yellows & pops of grey. Kind of a random color scheme, but I'm a teeny tiny bit in love with it. If you remember the previous nursery, you'll notice that I worked with tones that would allow me to keep the wall colors. I wanted to stick with the soft butter yellow & grey from before, because I liked the colors and also because I didn't want to deal with painting them again! I then made the following changes to add that girly flair:

  •  A lighter, more feminine, more modern crib (link below)
  • More simple, airy & modern light fixture
  • Swapped out the old black knobs on the light yellow shelf for some glass ones with a peach tone
  • Painted the old black dresser/changing table so it's now a fresh shade of coral-- lined the drawers with white/grey chevron & polka dot wrapping paper
  • Changed out the rug for this more mod faux bois one (does this surprise you?) haha
  • Went for a more neutral chair
  • Adjusted the wall collage above the crib a bit-- changed out the small magnet board for a mirror, painted the larger magnet board with some of my hot air balloon art,  changed the initial to fit her name & painted the wire baskets to coordinate with the dresser
  • Lastly, I added a couple of framed prints I designed above the chair & accessorized with girly things like pretty vintage books & lovely storage baskets

I still have a few little projects that didn't quite get done, like the hot air balloon mobile that will hopefully one day find it's way to be a little Design Love Detail DIY. In the meantime I'm enjoying my sweet little babe & her new girly nursery. And can you believe these heavenly photos by Lindsey Orton Photography?! She's amazing. Check out her work!!
