Design Trends 2019: Pillow Pairings!

[show_ms_widget id="36014700" image_id="41878802" width="683" height="683"]Pillows are one of my favorite decor accents. They're fun to switch out periodically and can really freshen up a space! Like I mentioned in my previous post, there are some decor items I like to spend a little more on, but pillows I typically like to keep affordable (usually in the $15-$50 range) because I just can't justify spending $100-$200 like some pillows cost, when I know that I'll want to update and change them out fairly often. I actually buy probably 80% of my pillows in the $15-$30 range and then I mix in a couple very favorites that might fall in that higher end of the range I mentioned. And since a lot of you have asked how to pair pillows and which ones go well together I thought I'd make this guide for you with a few ideas as shown above & some tips below!First of all, you kind of want a few "star of the show" pillows and then some good "back up dancer" pillows! haha. Basically, you don't want every pillow to have a lot going on. My typical formula for pairing pillows is to make sure you have one that is a solid (or at least mostly solid) and then a texture and a pattern or two (sometimes a pillow will have both a texture & a pattern like the middle grouping on left side (above). When mixing patterns you want to make sure the scale of the patterns varies-- basically if you're going to use 2 different striped ones for example, make sure one is a thinner stripe and the other is a thicker (see the example at top right-- I used a thinner horizontal stripe and mixed it with a vertical wide stripe that has a slightly different pattern to it).Keeping a common element in the pillows can be a great idea too-- for instance if you see the example at top left there's a similar shape to the design of the indigo pillow and the textured one. This slight mimic of the same geometric shape helps to give your eye a common element which makes the pillows feel cohesive and like they belong.Another thing I love to do is to mix textures! The bottom left grouping has velvet & a woven knit texture which I love together. Then the fringe ends of the lumbar pillow paired with those adds a 3rd texture, which keeps this grouping interesting even though the colors are subtle. Below you'll find links to some of my current cost-effective pillow faves that are sure to freshen up your decor without giving you buyers remorse! And if you happen to be in the Waco, TX area you can shop my own pillow collection (like the black/white hand-stamped floral print in the middle) from Linen & Cake-- a darling boutique shop that even Joana Gaines herself visits!GET THE LOOK:[show_shopthepost_widget id="3439062"][show_shopthepost_widget id="3439073"][show_shopthepost_widget id="3439081"] MollieSignature
